Troubleshoot scanner input
Find the cause of a scanner that does not start, sends unexpected characters, or shows a blocked or unmatched result.
Before you start
Know whether you are using the camera, a manual entry field, a generic keyboard scanner, Zebra DataWedge, or a Honeywell keyboard scanner. Keep a non-sensitive test code ready.
Steps
Check the workflow
Return to the Mobile App Home screen and confirm that you opened the intended workflow: Shipping scan, Product inbound, Product outbound, or Loss outbound.
Check the input profile
For camera input, use Camera / typed input and check the camera permission. For hardware input, open Manual input and select Keyboard wedge, Zebra DataWedge, or Honeywell keyboard to match the scanner.
Check focus and suffix
For a keyboard scanner, focus the Manual input field and verify that the scanner sends Enter, CR, or LF after each scan. Check the device keyboard layout and remove hidden prefixes when possible.
Read the result message
Read the scanner card and status message. No ERP record matched means the submitted value was not resolved in the selected tenant and workflow; a permission, variant, warehouse, stage, or packing message identifies a different required correction.
Use a safe fallback
If the camera is unavailable, use Manual input or a configured keyboard scanner. If the app cannot resolve or complete the action, correct the displayed requirement and retry only after checking the current result.
Expected result
The input is either resolved into the correct scanner card or the app displays a localized status that identifies the next required check. Actions that can change inventory or fulfilment remain subject to the selected workflow and workspace permissions.
If something goes wrong
- Camera unavailable: check camera permission and device support, then use Manual input while the device issue is being checked.
- No response from a hardware scanner: check pairing, HID or keyboard wedge mode, focus, profile, and the Enter/CR/LF suffix.
- Wrong characters: check keyboard layout and prefixes, then retry with plain text and the matching hardware profile.
- No match or blocked action: confirm the code belongs to the active workspace and selected workflow. For inventory, select an exact variant and warehouse; for shipping, check packing state, stage configuration, and permission.
